Mechanical and Electrical Engineer for Department Manager - Government / Military Contractor

We are looking for an Engineering manager for our client in London Ontario.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a talented engineering group of various experience levels and disciplines
    Work with stakeholders (engineers, business development, QA, Prototyping) to lead delivery of major projects
  • Actively identify bottlenecks and ways to improve engineering productivity
  • Understand, develop and collaborate on complete product lifecycle from concept to execution
  • Ability to understand, manage and drive program timelines and the gate process
  • Develop and update systems and procedures to track and ensure engineering standards are met and maintained
  • Work with finance and senior management to maintain and optimize budgets to meet goals
  • Can execute, taking an idea from the Business Development team and making it a reality through the joint development of the Statement of Work (SOW) and managing each project to these requirements.
  • Engage in all aspects of talent development (recruiting, mentorship, career development, progression and succession planning, etc.)
  • Exemplify corporate values and drive a culture of accountability, innovation, and change.
  • Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection which will include communicating directly with suppliers (facilitated through Purchasing).
  • Must action multiple projects in a complex technical environment
  • Develops and applies advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems.
  • Drive a mentality of ownership and accountability to each engineer for their assigned projects or tasks
  • Use best engineering practices to determine solutions from theoretical through to applied methods to ensure validity of design.
  • Ability to present complex concepts and solutions to all areas within the business including, but not limited to, Customers, Senior Management, Board members etc.
  • Other duties or projects, as required

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • 5 + years engineering experience in a highly engineered prototype and product manufacturing environment
  • P. Eng considered a strong asset
  • PMP designation an asset
  • 3 + years’ experience managing a team (management of Engineers is an asset)
  • Strong understanding of systems development
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting skills
  • Good organizational, project management and time management skills
  • Ability to work and adapt in a fast paced multi-tasked environment
  • Ability to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements including overtime
  • Competent in the use of computer-assisted engineering software (preferred Solidworks experience) to perform engineering tasks.
  • Experience in electrical, mechanical, and/or composites is an asset
  • Successful candidate must meet all requirements under ITAR and CGD
